Pendragon Joins Wells for War of the Worlds Exhibit (October 29, 2004)

Production maquettes from Pendragon Pictures' new movie version of H.G. WELLS' THE WAR OF THE WORLDS will be featured in the new THE WAR OF THE WORLDS exhibit opening at Paul Allen's Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame beginning October 30th, 2004. The exhibit, which will run for one year, also features dozens of book editions, radio, film and stage adaptations. An array of artists' interpretations of the Martian invasion, including a collection of original illustrations for the 1906 le Vandamme edition of the novel by Brazilian artist Alvim Correa will be on display. These drawings have never been available for viewing in the United States before now. Steven Spielberg's production is mentioned in the exhibit, but will not be providing any materials as they are just beginning their version.

The Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame is a passion of Microsoft cofounder Paul Allen, whose SpaceShipOne landed the $10 million dollar X Prize for being the first privately manned craft into space.

"I'm very excited to be part of this exhibit," exclaims THE WAR OF THE WORLDS director, Timothy Hines. "Paul Allen has been very generous in inviting us to be part of this exhibit. As part of our consultation for the show, we were given a personal tour of the museum hosted by curator Therese Littleton. In and of itself, that was amazing. Viewing the props and miniatures of Hollywood movies throughout the ages with Ms. Littleton's commentaries and anecdotes on restoration processes and the museum's interactions with the superstars of Science Fiction, was an awesome experience. And to be included with such mega-talents is humbling."

Producer Susan Goforth adds, "After our movie comes out in the spring, one of the actual miniatures of the Martian Fighting Machines, will be added to the alien and handler maquettes, which are part of the exhibit now." The designs were labored over by a creative team headed up by miniature artist Michael Fransen, for their accuracy to the book. "Michael is a great artist," continues Goforth. "He and Timothy have carefully translated Wells' visions into truly terrifying designs."

Pendragon Pictures' production of H.G. WELLS' THE WAR OF THE WORLDS is on track for Spring release. "I am comfortable and confident as to how things are going," says Hines. "It's due to how we shot the picture in the summer. We did it right, carefully and unrushed. It was the inevitable execution of several years of planning and attention to detail, and that will reflect on the screen." Pendragon's version of THE WAR OF THE WORLDS is true to the Wells classic novel and placed in its original turn-of-the-century, period setting.

The Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame is located in Seattle, attached to the Experience Music Project, at the base of the Space Needle. For more on the H. G. Content Insider #148 - The iGen
NO...Doesn't have a thing to do with "that" smartphone...or "that" store...or "that" tablet. It's the next generation. Kids and we mean little kids. That's what today's products are being designed for/targeted at. You happen to buy one...fine. Watch a little, little kid pick up a smartphone. He/she just uses it. They've come pre-wired and we're still trying to figure out how to IM. It's the IGen. They want it instantly. They want to use it instantly. They expect their photos, their video, their music, their stuff immediately when/where/how they want it. Read More

Insider #149 - Game Demographics
The blood, gore, adrenalin challenges that were unveiled at E3 and enjoyed at ComicCon are fun to look at, easy to hold but are they really the games people want to plunk down their credit cards to own or rent time with? Seems as though the investors, the players who control the controllers have a different idea of a "good" game than the kids who develop them. While mobs of people play educational, informational, stimulating games our kid huddles in his room and mumbles "The Few, The Proud, The Gamers." Read More
